We are designed to move

Since I am sitting in the gym right now in the Personal Training office I figure I might as well start this blog with a little tid bit about movement and fitness and how it relates to great health. Humans as a species are designed to be moving, we are supposed to move every day. For some reason most people don’t, hence the 71% obesity rate in North America. I know that it also has a lot to do with our extremely poor nutrition and food supply but it also has lots to do with the lack of exercise and movement we are doing on a daily basis. Moving doesn’t need to be difficult either, things like going for a 20 min walk everyday is a great start. Sitting in a chair and then standing up again multiple times can be a start too, that is actually tougher than you’d think. Touching your toes and then reaching up to the ceiling 10 times will get the blood moving. These are just a few simple ideas to get you moving with out a gym or any special equipment. The reality is that if movement isn’t a part of your daily routine then you are really damaging your health, your heart is working extra hard, your circulatory system is suffering, your lungs are probably disfunctional, you have muscular imbalances which will eventually cause you to be injured (lower back problems), you probably have terrible posture which leads to things like poor circulation to the brain, limited oxygen uptake in the lungs, tight hips, inactive glutes, tight pectoralis muscles and inactive muscle in the middle of the upper back and you most likely have a disfunctional immune system and frequently get colds and flus. Get your butt off the chair and get moving!!!
