Movement is Medicine

In our age of technology and rapid advances in health care we have become more over weight and unhealthy than ever in our existence. Society is at a standstill literally…we never move like we were designed to. Humans sit at desks in front of computers day in day out, we sit in our cars as we drive to work, we sit on airplanes as we travel, we sit in front of the television when we come home from work and we sit and have coffee as we chat with our friends. Our hips which are designed to hold our body weight at least 8 hours a day get little or no use and because of that we have knee pain, low back pain, foot pain and a laundry list of other joint issues that inhibit our performance. Other side effects of sitting all day are tight hips, inactive glute muscles (buttocks), tight pectorals (chest), rounded upper back (kyphosis), forward head posture and extremely inactive back muscles. All of these plague our bodies with dysfunction and lead to dis-ease and added stress.

Our bodies naturally want to be healthy and will do what it needs to maintain itself. Other than diet the next best way for us to ensure we lead a long and healthy life is to move. Move daily for a minimum of 1 hour. When moving you need to do the basics. Movements we would have needed to perform 10,000 years ago just to survive and thrive. Those movements are called “Primal Movements” named by Paul Chek. They consist of 7 basic movements which are Squat, Lunge, Bend, Push, Pull, Twist and Gait (walk, run). Those 7 movements were essential for us to perform then and they are still essential for us today. The more a person moves in conjunction with good clean nutrition the healthier they will become. Movement truly is medicine, take your dosage daily with water and repeat for the rest of your life!
