Be Careful Who You Listen To
When you are going after your dreams make sure you are careful who you listen to. You need to make sure you get your advice and guidance from a person who has completed successfully that which you are trying to accomplish yourself.
If you speak to a person who has failed at real-estate investing for example they are certainly going to have a different perspective for you than that of the person who has been successful at real-estate investing.
The person who has failed is going to try to protect you (at least that is what they think they’re doing) by saying things like it is risky, or that you can’t make any money, or that it is very hard and you can lose a lot of money, all things that are true for that person.
But if you speak to the person who has had great success with real-estate investing they will tell you a whole different story. They will say things like it can be very lucrative, you can make a lot of money and build a lot of wealth when done correctly. They will have insights into how you can do it properly with minimal risk and stress as well as how you can set yourself up to be successful for the long term.
The problem is that most people will listen to their friends and family and all of the people who have not completed successfully that which they are trying to accomplish…Big mistake!
Make sure you always and only talk with and listen to those who have done what you want to complete successfully already, they will be the ones who give you the best advice and feedback as well as the proper guidance so you can ensure you’re successful too.
Seek out a group of people who are successful and pick their brains, ask them for help, ask questions and be open to what they have to say. Take what they tell you very seriously and follow their guidance. Be a person who is successful and accomplishes their dreams by leveraging the skills and talents of those around them who have already accomplished successfully that which you desire.
Last word of advice, be a student, read books on the subject and get as educated as you can on what you want to do. Make sure you find a good mentor and be an open-minded, eager person who lives a life that your friends and family can only marvel at.
Lead the life of your dreams!!!

Well said Mr. Britt. If I had listened to those around me 10 years ago, I would be just out of law school, probably grey hair’d and stressed as I spent my days studying for the BAR in hopes of starting at the bottom of a large law firm to put in 80 hrs a week trying to work my way up someone else’s corporate later over the next 20 years of my life…
WOW, that visual scares me.
I’m so grateful I met others to listen to, as I love the life I get to live today!

Great advice my friend – a real common sense approach to achieving success, in whatever industry. As an entrepreneur who is currently developing a start up company, I learned a long time ago that it is absolutely crucial to take advice only from successful people. They may not be in the exact field as you, but if you listen long enough, you are sure to learn something of benefit from them. Seek out and find those willing to share their wealth of knowledge with you. Learn as much as you can from whoever you can, and you are sure to put yourself on a much faster track toward your own success.
Great article Matthew.
It seems that people are all about “protecting” others from making mistakes that they’ve made, but what is the motivation? Is it to help them, or to avoid looking bad when their friend succeeds at something that they’ve failed at?
I think with anything we need to be asking the right people for advice!
